Weve all experienced it. That dreadful feeling when youre sitting in English, DYING to finish that vexel you started last night. You can try paying attention in class, but when you know that vexel is just rotting on your computer
it just wont happen. Dont deny your cravings! Try these ten simple steps to curb your vexelly desires during the school day. Some of these are tried-and-true tips...and some, well...you may have to try for yourself.
1. Stare at your teacher while hes lecturing. In your mind, separate his skin into layers (no icky posterized colors! ^_^). Think about the best way to vexel his mole, or his exceptionally bulbous nose. Even better, your teacher will think youre paying attention! Yay!
2. Rip out one of your eyelashes. Study its shape during class, and never face the doom of the new-vexellers-stick-jagged eyelashes ever again.
3. In fact, just bring a mirror and study your own features all day. Be aware of the true shape of eyes, just how much of the lacrimal duct ACTUALLY shows (a common mistake), that hair is not just one color, and that noses are more than just two dark holes. People will stare at you and perhaps throw things at you, but calmly explain to them how inferior they are because:
1. They dont even know what a vector or a pixel is, much less a vexel.
2. They think Photoshop is a place you take film to have it developed.
*scoff* Those losers. For shame, ignorant public! Even better, print out one of your vexels and carry it around in your pocket, so you can go Ha, I made that, jerk. You know, to make them realize how pathetic they truly are. Sigh.
4. Even better! You can have great fun trying to explain what a pixel is to one of your friends. Then explain a vector. Then explain a vexel. This will secure your own knowledge of what is and what is not a vexel (another common mistake ^_^). And it will make you sound smart. Win win. Although, use with caution, it can be incredibly frustrating
-Friend: What is a vexel?
-Me: A kind of computer art that mimics vector art using raster layers, not vector layers.
-Friend: Whats a
um
vector art?
-Me: A shape that remembers the lines it follows, not the pixels it occupies.
-Friend: A shape? Pixels? Where? What shape?
-Me: A vector shape.
-Friend: So thats a vexel? Pixel shapes are vexels?
-Me: NO.
-Friend: Gosh. So what IS a vexel?
-Me:
Art. -____-;;
-Friend: Oh, I get it. Awesome!
So please, for the sake of your own sanity, proceed with EXTREME caution. *dies*
5. See the world around you in line art. Observe the lines present in everything around you. Focus on big blobs of color and simplistic flatness. This will, of course, drastically improve your line art skills. If you can observe lines in nature, you can surely use them sensibly in your artwork. DO NOT, under any circumstances, try to explain your views to your vexel-ignorant friends, lest they think you are under the influence of some mind-bending drug and report you to the principal.
6. If you use the lasso tool for your vexels, grab a pen, hold it like a mouse, and practice making long, smooth curves. Train your hand to better control the mouse/pen/whatever. Defy the choppyness!
7. Use vexel-related words in everyday life. If someone asks for advice on their essay, tell them its choppy. If someone asks you how their hair looks, tell them they need to add more strands (walk away before they ask for an explanation.) If someone asks you how their foundation looks, tell them they need more layers.
8. Be on the lookout at school for people with perfect features to vexel. Find someone with well-defined, bright lips, a well-defined nose, and nice eyes. Hunt this person down, tell them Oooh, baby, Id just love to vexel youuu *drool*, watch them whip out a can of mace, and run like heck. OR, tell them youre with the yearbook and you need a quote and a photo. Take a photo, and use the quote in the description to make it seem deep and meaningful when you add it to your gallery here. :D
9. Think of new collab ideas during class. Be inspired by your surroundings. Romeo and Juliet collab? To Kill a Mockingbird collab? Essay rewrite collab (save me a spot in this one, please)? Be creative. Or dont. Or just think of another way to collab with your favorite Calvin Klein underwear model. (Dont tell your friends about that one, either.)
10. Or, or, or
write a new vexel-related article during class. Nothing is more stimulating to the mind than trying not to pay attention to whatever mundane fact is being drilled into you. Hey
what else is math class for? When do you think I wrote this?
In conclusion, by incorporating these ten small tips into your life, you can be fully vexel-satisfied throughout your day, and the 7 hours during which you are away from www.vexels.net will seem like no time at all ;D

lmfao this is a great article.. whats scary is that sometimes I do some of those things hehe..
I'll sit in my classes and think about the vexels I'm working on and what I should work on next to finish them.. I even uploaded my PSDs to my server so I can work on them from school during my breaks.
and I hate trying to explain vexels to people.. I usually just say illustrations. I get especially flustered when trying to explain to my boyfriend what the hell I do on the computer for hours and hours, because his english is not well at all.. for him I just call it art. He gets mad, like I'm saying hes stupid by trying to explain it hehe :D
I like articles like this!! It was a lot of fun to read! |

I hate trying to explain vexels and vectors to people. I just end saying "Computer art that often looks like a cartoon" after trying to really explain about....
a billion times. But I do do that, I look around the class and decide who would be funnest to vexel, who'd make my eyes bleed to vexel.
There's this girl in my first period, Mary, her hair is always different colors and I always want to vexel her.
And Jenn, she's got GORGEOUS lips and eyes and I always want to get them.
But they don't really know/talk to me. So I can't go up to them with a camera and be all "Can I have you picture to vexel?"
Then explain again, what a vexel is.
And I always think of collab ideas. Of course, I never post them, but that's besides the point.
Anyways, GREAT article. |

another great idea: trace over bookcover designs (or some other picture/drawing you can doodle on) where you would put shapes and shades if u were vexeling it. (i actually did this to a horrible flower book cover i have.) |

Hah only two of my friends know what a vexel is because im showing them constantly not that they care though. Heehee i love this. It'll help during my civics class. Lmao on 7 and below. Most of this stuff i can't do because im the one who talks too much in class so my teachers are always yelling at me or calling on me to see what im doing.
But i do miss www.vexels.net during the day i will look at a person and actually say in my mind it would be great to vexel her/him. or when i see angelina jolie im like oh no, too many vexels of her get it away, take it away. People look at me weird but suprise surprise there. Anyway i love this. |

i love this article, so funny. but i would never dream of mentioning vexelling to my friends, i would just get a 'Whatever' stare lol
vexelling has improved my shading skills dramatically, especially when shading in watercolour. |

When you mentioned the teacher's nose I read 'exceptional buttox' at first and was like, 'No that's wrong... wait that was right, right? Ohh classy stuff... wait let me check...' and the second time realized ; ) hehehe
I actually had some of my vexels printed in 4x6 so that I could pass them out :x ~whistles, walking away casually
