Hey people of www.vexels.net! How are you guys? well for starters, I am Tifney and I am -sort of- new to vexeling. I've learned a bit about vexeling a couple of years ago...I somehow came across this site (don't quite remember how i did =/) and I loved the art technique and so I tried it myself. My vexels suck like seriously. Well, they used to. I am new-and improved-with my vexeling style/technique. The thing is, I have a problem with finishing my vexels...thats why I haven't posted one since December of last year (pretty pathetic, I know haha)! I've started SO many, that they are just countless lol. I will try my best to put new vexels on here...I'll definitly try. But anyways...I am 15 years old, and I was born on March 22nd, 1991. I currently reside in Annapolis, Maryland USA. I've visited many places in the US. I've never been outside of the US though, definitly looking forward to that! I have a huge -and when I say huge, I mean HUGE- family. It consists of 6 sisters, no brothers, and a mom and dad. No pets lol I don't know why we have the big family that we do...but we just do haha. We range from ages 10-30 lol thats pretty cool huh? yeah, I think so too. I have 2 newphews, and I also have 1 niece. I love them dearly. I am now a sophmore (I hope...since I haven't seen my last report card or "mark"). I cannot wait to go to go to college! I hate school right now, But i believe that when I go to college, I will love it...I wish these 2 years would just "fly by". lol yes. litterly. Well, Idon't ~~have a boyfriend and his name is Garee (he hates it, I hate it...we all call him Dee, idk why 0.0) and i'm not quite in love with him....yet, I can feel it edging on.~~ I love to be "in love". Haven't had the luxury of feeling the feeling? you definitly have to feel it lol. it's so amazing. I swear...the best feeling in the world. Well, jeez I feel like I am telling my life story lol. Hope this didn't bore you (i know how much of a bore I can really be...). Enjoy my vexels. =]

i think i do it the way everyone else does :) I basically choose 1 base color using the drop tool first. then click on that base color to open up its color pallette. and from there choose a lighter color (close to white) and darker color (close to black) for shading. if i need to change shades i go back to the base color, open up its color pallette again and choose from there. it helps to ensure that i stay within the range of colors, especially the skin :) hope i make sense lol

Hi, thanks for dropping by my userpage!^^ i'm not really good at explaining how i do things, hehe but i'll try ;)
~ loads of layers lol. but i didn't lower the opacities in-between the layers too much as i wanted the vexel to retain the layered look (i'm too lazy to do realism! haha)

~ when i shaded her face i lay down the layers in erratic lines (as demonstrated by Vicky on the tip page here) to get the 'messy' look. the same goes for the rest of her body, except i didn't shade as much as compared ot her face.

~ i vectored a black base for her hair first, then add the rest of her strands on by one using the 'stroke path' technique (with varying brush sizes, of course ^^ )

~ hmm, what else..i added more shadows and highlights on her skin/face when i finished the vexel to add more depth to the shading...and that's about it.

if you go to the tips section of www.vexels.net, stella left one that said something about blurring the image (smart blur) and then posterizing it. that's what i do. i posterize to 24 :)

I usually don't posterize, but if I do, I do it at a level of about 20-25.
Before I posterize I use smart blur (on PS)so I can see the colors better.
If you use PSP you can use Noise>Edge Preserving Smooth instead.

I just go around the color slider until I find one that's a good step from the last. To start at the beginning though, I choose the first or second posterized one, and if it's a weird white-pink-yellow color, then I just adjust the hue until I find a more skin-like color.

Mmmhmm. If I don't do it by section, then I just get confused and can't figure out what layer is for what. D:

If by baselayer, you mean like a layer that you group everything on top of, I -usually- don't use base layers, but that's not always. Sometimes I use them to ensure that I don't go off the edge of my vexel when I'm feeling lazy and having trouble fitting something with the pen tool.

Yep, I do.

It really depends on the picture to what. I can't remember what I used for that picture, but anywhere from 10-20, depending on whatever section I'm doing. Probably more on the face, and less on the neck, but really it depends on the picture.

About my technics...I use the same as Linda for example. The main tip is to use right colors from very dark to bright then your vexel gets more depth. If your vexel looks choppy then add more layers

I had the most difficult time with the skin shading. I dropped the opacity on most of the layers and had to constantly change the colors. It's just about color coordinations.

Yes, I use a combination of Linda's method and my own. I posterize the image and do all the things that linda explains on her tutorial but I set the opacity of the layers very low (from 5% to 10%). Then I add other layers of solid colors and gradients looking at the reference image shading.
