AGREED! I wish people would stop linking that place, you're just encouraging her. Pixel2life.com or tutorialized.com have really good CORRECT tutorials.

I do be finished my review. Ar, mateys. ;)

:O I just read that whole thing! I've never even been to the site before but gosh.. it sounds like a doozy. When you said the next section was XHTML I had a little giggle fit :P

Glad I could provide some entertainment. ;)

I'm surprised actually, I expected all the teenybopper pixelfx fans to be flocking to my site and sending me hate mail. None as yet though. :(

You don't know how badly I want to anonymously send that review to the owner...

They now probably realize why their coding is so bad. :P

Feel free. I usually e-mail the links of my reviews to the owner of the site in question, but it's quite a popular site (for some reason) and I'm sure the owner will notice eventually. ;)

Everyone does, because I am ace. ;D Well, everyone except for the people being reviewed.. but it serves them right for having turdy websites :P

I should totally create a "stop pixelfx.org" banner and place it at the top of that review for people to link to, to educate them on bad tutorial sites. XD

What exactly are iframes? *blush*

Why is the coding on that site so bad btw? Haven't look at it yet, cause I'm going through all these websites one by one.
I'm following the tutorials on the site Matt gave me, now. It's great, very clear and easy to understand.
Just playing around with dreamweaver while I read the tutorials, to get the basics right.

Going to read that review now, Jem ;)

They're crap. Oh, wait, not what you asked. Well.. it's a tag in html that allows you to "include" one page into another - generally in a little scrolly box. You can target links to the box, so new pages open in it.

That's covered in the review, pretty much. :)

He, I don't know. I don 't actually think they're crap as long as people don't use limegreen backgrounds. :P

The lime green backgrounds are usually caused by people trying to make their iframe transparent with proprietary attributes.. generally it's not intentional ;)

I didn't get any emails yet, but I did get my first negative-ish comment today..

Not to be rude or anything, but why review on a site who didn't even ask you to review them, and didn't ask for anyones opinion? I'm sure if the owner would want someones opinion, she would ask. Just a thought.

Lol, writing a review is generally the same as leaving a comment on the comment systems.

For those keeping track on my review of pixelfx.org - I never did get a personal reply (oh dear) but I was notified that the site was updated yesterday and the following was included in that update:

I also wanted to quickly mention that, although a lot of people like this site, there are those few who well frankly hate it, I'm sorry they do, I have always said, if you don't like something, rather than hating on it, why not try to help out, but some people are just too close minded to do so, anyway, with my life and all I am trying whatever I can to improve, for me its about trying to help where I can, everyone has room for improvement, including myself, and this website.

I'm just going to assume that it was aimed at me. ;) Complete comma-madness aside (obviously has a fetish).. I find it quite amusing, heehee.

I never got round to php, but when I started, I learnt the newb tags first - how to link to something, bold, italic, paragraphs etc. Then dissected many custom layouts. You can still create a great website using only Notpad! =)

Well, if you know basic HTML, like tables or divs, then you can pretty much just go at it. One way to start is download some free layouts and just dissect the code. Learn how to position elements, and you can start from there. Also, viewing other websites source code can help. A lot of people will tell you that taking a little bit of someone elses code is stealing, but unless they have actually gone to a copyright office and have legally gotten their code copywritten (and you don't rip their whole site) it's completely ethical. That's the whole reason source code is there. So find some websites you like, check out their code, and base your structure on theirs.

Hope that helped a little bit. :)

That's how I learnt. I went to sites I loved that weren't very very coplicated with different plugins and php installs and everything and looked at their code. I went to freewebs and editted it (not to take and publish) and found out what each piece does to the site and know what's important and not.
