I have been browsing for months and experimenting. I wanted to know what are layers and is it a must for a good vector? I can't draw worth crap or seem to hold the mouse steady long enough to do hair good. How do you all do it so well? Also I have seen realism vectors how are they different and how do you make them? Are there any tutorials on layers and making realism vectors? Any help I can get would really be appreciated. Thank You. |

Have you looked at the tutorials page? my tip is before you start experimenting again look at loads of different tutorials to get a rough idea of what you need to do.

Yes I have seen tons of tutorials and I don't do my vexels like anyone else. They all seem to draw it on a blank canvas like a mask. I can't draw so pretty much I fill like I am coloring with a crayon. I have learned how to not make them flat though and make them look more like a vexel than just a Barbie doll coloring book. |

Ok i read yoji's Cs vector tutorial and i can't believe it is that easy. So ok all i have to do is pssteurize and then select parts of the skin with the wand. Put the bucket on Multiply then Opacity on 15 click on skin tone color and fill? It seems too easy. Seriously it is turning out good. I just want to run all around like a crazy person. Maybe this is just a easy way i found for me *giggles* |

What? No, no!!!
You don't select parts of the skin!! NO!!!! You draw your own skin!
You don't have the posterised version has a base!
Remember that this takes practice, you can't just learn it like magic.
I'm going to look at that tutorial now *grumbles*. |

Yes I am still very much in practice but I think I found a way for me. I don't do the whole base thing like everyone else. I kind of fill in the photo. I'm not that skilled so that is how I do it. It is turning out good to me. |

Lol I don't care what's not allowed I don't do vectors for people here. I am learning for myself. ;oD This is the link. He did it different but I got my own style.http://www.deviantart.com/view/18008695/
I pretty much did the vector then I tuned the colors more with opacity and everything.
I do not understand if my vector turns out good who cares how I got there. I am not cheating or whatever and I am putting time into it just like others put into theirs. Everyone has their own styles. Besides I didn't know there was a rule for doing vectors.

well if you found the tutorial via the tutorial page on this website then i dont see whats the problem the tutorial would have obviously been cleared by linda and so there for that technique is allowed on www.vexels.net and if the technique suits you then all the better :D Xxx |

Ohh, let me TELL ya! First of all, this site has an owner and 9 (I think?) moderators (including Carina who is a stickler) who are here to make sure what ends up on the site are vexels, so if you're going to submit things HERE you really should try to care what is allowed otherwise it will just be removed and can hurt your rep for future submissions.
Second, if you're using the fill bucket/selection tool combo then you're not doing vectors, you're making something in raster layers.
Third, ya, there are 'rules'. http://www.vexels.net/what.php tells you what a vexel is.

If I used a tutorial on this site and I came up with my own style what is the problem? My work looks just like others on here. Besides I asked for help but now that I said I came up with something people are against me. I only use this site to view gallery and tutorials because people in charge don't seem too nice or welcoming to new comers. I dont just use the paint bucket. Sheesh I should have just stayed to myself. A long time ago I used to go onto Palace and I used to edit the characters on there. Working with the same thing people do with vexels. We used to edit Anime Characters way before this.
Thank SpazzySazzy that is all I am saying.
With that tutorial mixed with others I now understand how to do this. Where he says draw a shape like the one shown and set the transparency to multiply and Opacity around 6 to 20%, Repeat the same techniques on other parts of the skin. It's called toning. That is what I was talking about and she said it's not allowed. I am doing everything on mine that is in the tutorials. So I am following the rules.

No one is against you. There are rules to vexelling- simply filling in colors on the original image is not vexelling. Everyone has their 'own' technique- there are tons of techniques exampled out there in tutorials and I myself have one technique I've never seen anyone else use. I think a LOT of people would disagree with you. We have a lot of members here, a lot of very active members at that, and new people can get lost in the shuffle- you kind of have to fold yourself in if you want to get involved. It's not other peoples responsibility to find you and go, 'OH! Hey! you're new come sit by me!'
If you're being misunderstood why not post some screenshots? People will surely give tips advice and kudos to what they see.
/Edit/ And by the way I'm one of the mods here and I put you on my watchlist when I saw you were a new member without any vexels yet to make sure you didn't get ignored when you posted a new one, I don't know how that's 'not too nice'. |

I didn't mean you nor Linda i have been here before she was also nice to me. I have watched you and you are nice to everyone. Thank you. Ok so you work with a base right? How come some tutorials show how you posterize and then fill in the skin tone? Why isn't that considered vexeling if you take everything and redraw it not just fill in the color? |

I don't quite understand what's going on here lol *confused puppy dog eyes*
What is the url to the tutorial says to posterize > wand > fill? I'll have to remove it. I don't normally read the tutorials in full before adding them.. It would take me ages -_- I just look at the pictures and read the first few paragraphs :P |

No! it doesn't say that. It says something else but I did it like that. Ok so why do you posterize? Ugh this is too hard. |

Ooh ok sorry I'm slow. Most people posterize to make it easier to see the differences in color.. it's kind of like a hint guide or something. |

Ok so after they posterize they take the paintbrush and do the colors? |

Most people don't do much vexelling with the paint brush (though I have seen it and it can be cool). They either make new layers and use the marquee tool to draw and fill or they use the pen tool in whatever program they use to create a series of shapes that build into shades. |
