Soo.. name all your favorite movies!
Point of No Return - This movie isn't overly incredible or anything like that, but I really like the characters and how things turn out.
Frida - One of my all-time favorite movies. This woman just went through so much in her life, and I love her art. The acting is superb in this movie.
Punch Drunk Love - Adam Sandler is a great actor, and I love seeing him in non-comedic movies. This movie is a lot about.. nothing. I dont really know how to describe it.
The Last Unicorn - Ok ok.. this is my favorite childhood movie. I wouldn't even call it a childrens movie. Yes its animated and it's about unicorns, but it is not overly sappy and happy like normal childrens movies.
The Shining and Full Metal Jacket - These are two Stanley Kubrick films, he is my favorite filmmaker.. Sadly he passed on a few years back. I would recommend checking both of these movies out. The Shining is based off a Stephen King book (which is also worth reading) and Full Metal Jacket is about the Vietnam War.
The Village - I am really into to filmmaking and film production, so I really appreciate what M Night does with his movies, and how he films them, and how he tells a story. A lot of people were disappointed with this movie because they didn't like the twist, or saw it coming, etc... but to me this movie was a love story, and really nothing else. Everything else about the movie just added onto that. Everyone single one of his movies has this 'glamour' plot, like in Signs.. aliens was the 'glamour' plot, what it appears to be.. but underneath, Signs was a movie about a family that was still getting over a tragedy.. So I really love the stories he tells, it is done very differently.
The Royal Tenenbaums - Wes Anderson.. another favorite. This is my favorite of all his films. I love character movies. I will take a good character over a good plot anyday. And this movie is really nothing but characters. Just.. watch it :)
Heathers - Mean girls except meaner. This is a pretty old movie, so if you haven't heard of it, just check it out :)
Other favorites include Great Expectations, Baz Lurhmans Romeo and Juliet, Dummy, Signs, Gladiator, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Sorry, I have lots of favorites! :) |

Grr ~eye twitch I just posted today on Demise MB about how The Village treated me. I wish I could make that damn movie feel the pain it inflicted.
Heathers was really good and probably one of my favorites. I've seen it several times and almost checked it out again two weeks ago (but I had two other things I had to check out for a friend sooo I didn't).
My usual list:
The Lost Boys Keiffer Sutherland and VAMMMMPIRRESS plus Two Boys Named Corey (yes, that's their name, it's a collective name).
Silence of the Lambs This movie thrills me to the core. I have seen it probably around a hundred times, not exaggerating!
Stand by Me Just half of Two Boys Named Corey showed up in this one. Oh-so-touching coming-of-age movie ; ) Bwa ha ha.
Other (to a less degree) Favorites: License to Drive, The War, A Far Off Place, The Man in the Moon (W/ Reese Witherspoon), Schindler's List, Benny and Joon There are more but I thought I'd list some that are less-likely to have been seen by the average visitor to this site ; P I also couldn't come up with any movies I would call 'favorites' that have been released in the last ten years : /

The Lost Boys is a classic as far as vampire movies go. Good choice.
I got Heathers at Target for like... $7. They're really good at having older/not popular movies for really cheap. I got Vanilla Sky, What Dreams by Come, and Requiem for a dream last month for all under $7. |

-Too Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar: It has Wesley Snipes in a dress, what more could you ask for?
-Stigmata: When horror movies are good, they're amazing. Ok, this isn't a great movie by most people's standards, but I fell in love with it when I first saw it. I think it's beautifully made.
-Amelie: Audrey Tautou = a goddess
-Kissing Jessica Stein: The only romantic comedy I could watch over and over without feeling embarassed about it.
-Don Juan DeMarco: This movie would have sucked if Johnny Depp wasn't in it (yeah, even Marlon Brando couldn't have helped it if Johnny wasn't there). This was the movie that made me want to have Johnny's babies.

Closer: AMAAZING dialogue. Loved the characters and their interactions with each other, and the cast = !! I really want to read the play.
My Sassy Girl: This was sooooo cute/sad at the same time! The is THE foreign movie to watch if you're looking for a unique romantic comedy.

Memento: The script is really tight and the editing is awesome. The characterization of the protagonist is really well done and the movie sets new standards for narrative structure. Chris Nolans best movie by far.
In the mood for love: My favourite Wong Kar wai movie. The artdirection by Chris Doyle is stunning and the whole movie is like a visual poem.
Great soundtrack as well.
Happiness: Really sharp satire. Tod Solonds is great at creating characters, that reflects the nastiness of contemporary amaerica.
Requiem for a dream: Beautiful cinematography and artdirection. The casting is great and Ellen Burstin is in her best role ever.
Ghost in the shell 1+2: My favourite anime movies. Both movies has set the standards of animation at their time. The plot is really intelligent and the animation is just stunning. The first one has been the main source of inspiration for the matrix. There are even a few scenes in the matrix which are taking directly frfom ghost in the shell.
Audition: Has a great atmosphere. Scary as hell and has a nice twist. My favourite Miike Takashi movie.
Taxi driver: Scorseses and De-Niros best. A classic in every possible way.
City of God: Brutal, violent and exelent storytelling.
Rosemary's baby: Great horror movie.
Oldboy: Has an exelent plot and great character development. One of the best Korean movies ever. Stylisticly it has a lot of post David Fincher like effects wich really ads a lot to the artdirection.
Mulholland Drive. I'm a big David Lynch fan. Very surreal and has a great creepy atmosphere the whole way through.
I have a lot of favourites...
others would be:
Pi, The descent, Palindromes, Magnolia, A clockwork orange, Bladerunnewr, Jacobs ladder, Sympathy for Lady Vengance, JSA, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Rashomon, Seven Samurais, Ichi the killer, Being John Malkovich, Eternal sunshine of a spottless mind, Run Lola, The princess and the warrior, Raise the red lantern, Akira, Lost Highway, The following, Good night and good luck, Rushmore, Royal tennanbaums, Hero, Birdpeople of China, Delicatessen, Cityt of lost children, Amelie, The warzone, 3 Iron, Spring summerfall winter and spring, Battle royale, 2046,
Love is a bitch, Donnie Darko, Fight club, Seven, La haine, Me you and everyone we know, Human nature, La confidential, The machinist, The others, Primer, Pulp fiction, Shaun of the dead, Tetsuo, Waking life, Before sunset,

Ahh haha Shaun of the Dead was great.
My favourites are
Monty Python - holy grail and life of brian Too funny, they poke fun at everything and it's something I can watch over and over.
Wolf creek My favourite horror.. never seen a scarier movie. People think it's just another "shock gore" movie like saw or hostel (BLEHHH) but it's farrr superior :D
romeo and juliet I can always watch this..It seems to be a real eye candy kind of movie.. not just Leonardo but the sets, costumes and everything. Is that a bad reason to love a movie?
team america too. funny. for. words.
love actually Total feel good movie :D
zoolander Too good, it doesn't need me to tell you how good it is.
And lots of animated ones like Shrek, Madagascar, Monsters Inc, Toy Story etc. They're just so light hearted and really funny.. maybe I'm childish or something but I laugh a lot through these movies :P |

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: I can't even put into words how much I love this movie and how amazing it is. <3
Minority Report: Let's count the reasons why it's awesome. 1) Tom Cruise before he went nutters. 2) Colin Ferrel. 3) It's a sci-fi movie. With the two aforementioned actors (who, to me, are HOT, HOT, HOT!). Oh, and the storyline is actually GOOD! 4) Directed by Steven Spielburg.
Zoolander: This movie is HILARIOUS. Sooo quotable, too!
And that's all I can think of right now... |
