Darn!
Im not that bummed about it.. but.. I wont get paid from my regular job on the days I have jury duty. State jury duty pays about $7 a day, which is like 10 times less than my regular job.
But Im also kind of excited in seeing how the courtroom works and all that shiz. So I wouldn't mind either way if I end up being excused.
This is what happens when you're a voter! :) Anyone else ever been summoned? I realize our age group on this board is about 12-18, but maybe someone has a story or help me out with? |

My sister was summoned for that before too, but I think they cancelled it or something. I hope everything goes great, I would be really excited! |

Ever since I turned 18 I've been waiting to get summoned. It's so nerdy, but I really hope I get chosen for it someday. I think it sounds like a blast. :P |

Wow $7 a day?! I thought they were suppose to cover your wages? Not that I really know much about it though.
I've never been to jury duty but I have been to a couple of random court cases through school and as a witness and they are uber boring :\ Hopefully you get some kind of Law and Order style mystery murder case :P |

if it WAS some mystery murder case, i don't think i'd be able to make a decision, especially if it could mean the difference between life and death. >_<
i'm somewhat curious myself, but ehhh...

Most court cases are really dreary...
My parents have gotten summons, but they keep making up excuses not to be picked. |

Are you registered to vote? Thats usually how they poll people, through their registration cards.
It would be really cool to get a muder case! Haha. Sometimes juries have to stay in hotel rooms and be guarded by security if the case gets dangerous. Just like out of a movie, it happened to the guy that works across the hall from me.
I guess we'll see :)

Yup, I registered on my 18th birthday. How dorky is that? Most kids on their 18th sneak up to Canada to drink or go to a strip club, I go register to vote. :P

Well if you ever watch law shows (like me, Im a Law and Order addict!) when there are criminal cases there are juries, which is a panel of people that have to watch the whole trial and make a verdict on whether or not the person is guilty for the crime they're being charged with. There are variations of trials that juries serve on, but thats the basic thing.
So being summoned for jury duty means you have to go to the court house and possibly serve on the jury. Being on a jury could last as long as a day if someone pleads guilty, or could go on forever (the OJ Simpson trial lasted 2 years!), but it's usually only 2 weeks. The defense attorney and prosecutor usually get to pick their jury, or the judge does, to determine if you'll judge the case fairly. Like if you say you're a racist, usually you're excused, if you hate the judicial system, thats a ticket out, but they make you swear on the bible when they ask you the questions.. so Im just going to tell the truth. And I might not even get so far as to get asked questions.
It's a very weird process!

I've seen it on tv, but I never knew someone could really be summoned for jury duty. That's so weird :P Kind of cool too, though.
Although; what if you fuck up an innocent person's life? |

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you know anything about the case yet ??
It does sound very exciting, but then I started reading all the replies and I realised it isn't :/
I think my mom was called to do something like that, but then it was cancelled. |
