(I didn't know where to put this, sorry!)

So at this other message board, I had this heated debate with another member on the term 'lineart'. I only joined that board a few days ago, and was surprised to see that the majority of members have defined the term 'lineart' as graphics that look like: this, this, this, and etc. You get what I mean? The first two come from a webmistress that's selling custom ones for $10-$30!

I pointed out to this person why her graphics would be called "lineart" when 1) It wasn't exactly outlined in the first place, and 2) How is it lineart when you have fills for your objects in? I always believed that lineart was just an outline, like Turp's Lines for Colour, which I showed her.

She stated that that's "vector art" and is more complex, etc. etc. I'm here to think that vector art is called "vector art" because it is made in a vector based program, regardless of style?

It was all really pointless, arguing over this term. However, in short, you would think that lineart is work based... on lines. o_O

Yeah, I know what you mean. I call my style vector art since it's made with ILLUSTRATOR & the pen tool. Sometimes gradient mesh. It makes me feel sick because lineart is categorized as crap now. I wonder if they use the brush tool for their lineart? :s

$10-$30? wtf. Are you serious? :0

I really think they use a 1px brush tool and just draw it out with their mouse like a pencil. A lot of the ones I have seen are really "jittery". :|

And yes, $10-$30! I was like, "WHAT?!" There are people who sell way better graphics of all sorts at far lower prices. x_x

Well, to start, I loathe the term and all that it stands for.

NOW!

Linework is just linework... someone adding colors to it doesn't negate the lines. Comic books use it and they have fills. Really it is to be expected, especially in digital mediums where it's very easy to add color without obstructing your trace lines.

LOOOOOOOOL but does anyone buys it? I don't get it. I don't sell my vectors because I think they don't worth more than a 47 cents :P but that makes me feel like I can be rich $_$ so no university anymore :P

Actually, those examples were two out of four orders by that person. So I guess so. :O

I dunno, I always use the term line-art in context like 'this is a realism vexel, with a little lineart'. You know? With the lineart I only mean the lines, not the vexel. :P So I think I agree with you.

Erhm, that's a confusing debate.
But, for me, lineart means using lines too. When I use lines + fill I just call this lineart + whatever vexel because it's not really pure lineart. :)
Bah, I know nothing. :)
