Some members mentioned there not being many tutorials for non-realism vexelling and included gradient use in that, so, I thought I'd make a quick one.
http://echoia.com/echoia_tutorials/photoshop_gradients_tutorial_1.gif
It features the image for this round of competition, though I'd appreciate it if respectfully nobody actually submitted one using this I can't stop you.
Anyone feel like giving it a whirl and seeing if it's understandable?
And Linda are you mad that I used that image? And do you know the usage rights for the image or where I can find them? |

I'M SO MAD!!
No, not really :D It's not my picture! I don't know who's it is :x It was just on a scan site and they didn't have any of the info in the filename.
Will that image be staying at the same URL? Can I add it to the tutorials page? |

Yes, you can add it most likely it will remain at that URL.
I might change it later to feature me since I dunno the usage rights, but it's totally unrecognizable so I don't figure I'll be getting in any trouble : P If I do change it though, you know, it'll be at best moderately offensive ; ) so no worries. Even if I change the actual image though it'll probably stay there. |

No, I completed the vexel. I used like... every style I know to make it ; ) I did everything in the style I feel I'm best at it in.
I'll probably do another one later, because I do eye makeup completely different than I do skin and lips different than both but I wanted to offer something for people who have never tried/had difficulties to work off of. |

I saw it on your website yesterday (I think). I'm so surprised at this technique. I always thought it was about making paths, and filling them with gradients. Very cool Echo *thumbs up* |

Thank you, Lisette : )
You could actually use paths and fill them similarly I think but I just feel more comfortable doing it this way. For some reason I've never liked to do the 'New Fill Layer > Gradient' thing. |
