So I'm working on this Avril Lavigne vexel for my dad. It was supposed to be for his birthday, but that bombed cause I couldn't finish on time. Now I want it done by Father's Day. He's a big fan of her and I want like this fancy, entirely rastered card for him. I've got practically everything but the nose, mouth and hair. The nose and mouth I'm not worried about, it's the damn hair! I'm kinda-sorta working on it, but it's going so slowly. Anybody have any tips to make go a little faster but yet still look detailed? I'm using Photoshop, but I also have Illustrator in case you know of anyway I can do it using that.

What I have so far:

Wow, thanks for all the great comments! I do love how the eyes came out. It's just frustrating, cause I know that the way I'm doing the hair is well, one of the great detailed ways to go about it, but it's just taking FOREVER!! So I was just wondering of any ways to speed up the process.

i love the way you did the hair!

you probably already know this... but for me, if i want to go fast and use stroke path for details, i just use the pen tool to make a stroke and then press [b] and [enter] (assuming you already have the brush set up).

Oh well, I'm just going at the pace I'm at but taking it small chunks at a time. I'm almost finished with the left side (her right) of the hair.

Heh, well he's not just like... any fan who loves her music and follows her music and such. He's a... how should I say... has a crush on her persay? And he's 45 years old. Ick. I dunno. I mean, it's one thing to just be a big fan of their music and whatnot, but as far as he goes.... eh, kinda weird. But whatever.

*giggling*

'Ick' is the reaction I had to finding out my step dad was an Avril fan. I knew it had to be because he had a crush on her. Not to be rude to her, but she looks about 12 to me. I don't see why grown men have a thing for her.

Hair is gorgeous :D Just keep doing a little each day and you'll finish on time. Don't use a different method (to speed things up)--this one is perfect :)
