Has anyone been diagnosed with a chronic illness? I'm only 19 and recently was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis, something i've unknowingly been dealing with since I was 10 or so.

What this means is that I have to live on a completely nonfat diet. I've lost 12 pounds in the past month... down to 88 pounds as of this morning - so thats not a good thing. I look anorexic. (yuck)

Oh my god that must be really hard. I don't think I could do it. What kind of foods are you allowed to eat?

And 88 pounds sounds so scary :( I think I was 88 pounds in 5th grade.

I have scoliosis (which technically I guess is chronic because I will have it the rest of my life?), I was diagnosed when I was was 10. Its about 18 degrees (it might be more or less now), and at 25 degrees is usually when they recommend back surgery. I do yoga daily to minimize the pain and it works very well and helps me keep my posture. My posture was horrible in middle and high school. I sometimes got called humpback, even though scoliosis curves the opposite way, but it just felt better to hunch and take the stress off my lower back.

i have something called cholinergic utricharia, which means if my body temp changes drastically very quickly or if i get really stressed i'll break out in hives. if whatever is causing the problem continues (i.e. if i keep running around and making my body all hot or whatever) it'll turn into anaphylaxis, which means my throat closes up and i can't breathe.

Well, there's not much I'm supposed to eat. No fat, no dairy, no salad, etc. etc. etc... the doctors have their rules and I refuse to live by them. I just hope I dont get sick basically, and can't be the posterchild for McDonalds anymore (I used to eat McDonalds like once a day. ) The most frustrating thing was that I've had this since I was about 10, and my doctors at home refused to do anything. They told me once that I was pregnant or my appendix was rupturing, then ran tests, and neither was true. It took an ambulance trip to the ER my first day of college to figure out what was going on.

It all has to do with a pesky enzyme. When I get sick though, it's -sick-.
Regardless, chronic illnesses are horrible. I'm just glad I dont have anything like Crohns, which was my original fear.

Not really a fun subject to read/respond to, I was just curious because thats my way I suppose.
