I downloaded a pattern file.. it was .pat and I loaded it in PS but how do you know how big it is and how to crop it so you can use it as a tile outside of PS?

Most patterns I've used just come as a .gif and you convert it to a pattern yourself and you can go back to the gif and use that for everything outside of PS.
Do you have to just fiddle and guess? Or am I missing some kind of lovely export pattern button? :D

That's weird... I've had this problem before but I don't remember solving it. Maybe you should just experiment, or do the 'edit dfine pattern' and take a look at the thumbnail.

Yeah I ended up just zooming in and guessing/testing until I had it right :\ What a pain in the butt.

That's why I hate .pat files! I only use them if they're really, really good. Where did you get yours?

They were from DA. Yeah I'm going to keep that in mind now, I didn't really think of it when I was installing them and used them.. and then it looked so good so I really wanted to use that background :( hrmph!

The only pattern sites I currently use are squidfingers and er k10k.net. Sometimes I make my own but they're not too good.
