Yeah, I used the pen tool to make all the paths, filled it in with Gradients (with the Gradient Tool) and some parts are solid colours as well .. (lowered the opacity of layers to get the fading effect).. and .. yeah ;)

ps. but nothing from the original picture is faded if that's what you meant :]
