I think if the face was too hard to vexel, then you could have shaded it in - it would make it even more illustration like, which was your goal anyways.
Spongebob looks really cute. Work on the linework though - it's a tad messy. |

The shading at the face was already really hard to do as it was so vague, so it was really hard to find an eye cause it was all just black around there. But I added a tiny glimpse of an eye, nothing too eye-catching though since the eye isn't meant to be the main part anyway. :P rather focus on my gradient use on the bed ;) hahaha
