Vexel Article - Wanted: Commenters - by Seven

There are two elements that make www.Vexels.Net what it is: vexelers and commenters. Without one or the other, the site wouldn't exist. Unfortunately sometimes people get so caught up in the vexeling half, they forget about the commenting half. Regulars to the forums will remember the recent talks about how the most amazing vexels get hundreds of comments while the less experienced vexel artists get few. Although most people talk about it, few do anything to remedy it.

Commenting takes very little time, and most people say a comment that gives helpful advice is more welcome than a favorite. Take a moment to visit a new artist and give them a little help. If you don't know what to say, visit Mike's article Giving A Good Critique. If you're pressed for time, even a short and to-the-point comment like "I think you should adjust the skin tone" will help.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't comment on amazing vexels. Even the best of the best need validation. I'm saying that everyone who visits here deserves a chance, and telling the good that they're good over and over isn't helping anyone and is generally a waste of your time. Go to the gallery page and look at the vexels with the alltime most comments. There is a connection between the most favorited vexels and the most commented on vexels. I don't think this is a bad thing, but I feel as though people should pay as much attention to commenting on vexels that could use some work. A favorite for the most popular pieces will express to the artist that you love their work. If a comment is less than five words long, it's usually not necessary.

So visit the "No Comments" page and give a newbie a helping hand. After all, we were all there once and most of us know how it feels to be overlooked because of inexperience. Someone, who a year from now will be an unbelieveable artist, is creating their very first vexel today. Don't you want to be able to say you knew them back when?

anastasia I definately agree. I posted my first vexel today, and some of the comments helped me make my 2nd one better. Every comment is a great help, even if it doesn't contain any tips.
Gypsie101 I've just started, and this article is a great help. You need support I guess!
Nyx Thank you for this! When I posted my first (and so far, only completed) vexel I had really hoped for some C&C and I only got one response.
keysamisa Your article is a double G "GREAT & GOOD" !!!! I do totally agree. I always feel good to see someone leave me a comment on my works. I think comments are not only give good feeling for vexeller but also help them to improve.
Ms. JeEzy I TOTALLY agree... I'll admit, sometimes I feel bad that I don't get comments on my new vexels... Yet, if someone who is more experienced posts like a few hours after me, they have like 25 comments... I try not to take it personally, but it seriously makes me not want to post my work on here if I won't even get recognized... It's like... What's the point? I always try my best to comment on everyone's work whether it's good or bad, expert or ameture.
arenys92 lol, since this article is posted, the 'no comments' gallery is always empty =B
Jules thanks for this article :)
i usually try to comment as often as i possibly can and i think everyone should!
Quyen This article really motivate me to give more comments. harhar.
even thoigh I need some too. :P
grrlissa yeah! I am not so good yet...and have never gotten more than 3! and while I have never had a negative or hurtful comment
I have gotten a few that have helped!!
AcidDoll
Your are so right !! I always try to comment the most I can, on vexel where I can help :D
I still remember how it was to get just like 4 comments on a vexel, like on my Amelie one :(
Chloe
Aww, great article!! I agree--those who are good already know they're good, but the newbies who are doing things wrong don't know how to fix 'em. :) Great motivator!
andyzL
*sob-sob...this article really moves me..as i thought i was the only one here who was kept alone without anyone knowing me or how i felt...
u got me...
hope this will wake the cooler vexelers from changing their negative point of view into positive point of view to help newbies(like m3)
anyway.. Vexeling ROCKz!
leleana Thanks for this :) Hopefully some vexels that are good will stop having only one or two comments
misery Yeah, I agree.. sometimes if people don't comment, they might feel down and they wanna know what they can do to make their vexel better.. haha we all wanna improve ^-^ nice article!
BigDeeZy yeah true i know how that feels lol
monica I am definitely taking this to heart and doing this because people deserve it. How else are we going to improve?
Gwen
Wow, great article! Made me think about it. I totally agree with you, but I know I also barely give comment to bad vexels. I think we should all give more comments to vexels which aren't that great
Keaton Ah, I know what you mean.

I just put up my first like a while ago and I only have two comments. :P
kilxover I remember when I only received 5-8 comments on my first vexel (more has accumulated now), but each one made a difference to me especially Shelley's, my first comment ever :P
Angie
very good article! I try and comment when I can...I should probably try harder though :)
MOFO
HELL YES!
I always comment on the newbs, they need loving just as much as everyone else.
angel421355
sorrry...didn't mean to post twice
angel421355
This is an absolutely great article, and I agree with everything you said =]
Shiva20 great article,
my linearts have one at the max 5 comments.
more comments :p

i like commenting, sometimes i go to the no comments gallerij and just comment on a few i like or don't like.
just to giv them a little push :):)

I usually give a comment unless I'm on a hurry, then I look, maybe fav, and backspace to the next one.
I mean, I get excited if I get so much as 10 comments.
And there are people here who if they get 10 comments they'd be all "wtf only 10? I'm used to 75+! NO FAIR"
Seriously, comments help ALOT.
My most recent vexel had lighter hair color and if you see, a few of the beginning comments told me to make the hair darker.
I did and got /more/ comments and a fav.
As said on my MB post, me along with MANY others put hours and days into their work, and often it turns out pretty good.
But since we aren't "popular" here, hardly any comments or favs.
The_Musketeer Cool article....

I only got 7 comments combined on the two vexels I posted. I thought to myself: "Wow....I must be a real low rent, piece of dung vexeller to only get 7 comments." :D The comments and Favs I got were greatly appreciated though.
Ooh_lalala Nice articel ^^
I dont always give a comment, mostly like wow I like it etc , just because I am a beginner... *shame*
i would like to help if I could and I will try to comment as much as I can XD
lahlahbarros
Yeah, I would liek to be able to do that.
;] It's a wonderfull idea.
I always thought commenting with a little critique is helpful, but, sometimes I think people won't like, that's why I don't comment that much.
Anyway, gonna comment more xd
elle_tia I EMPTIED THE NO COMMENTS GALLERY!!! YAY
elle_tia great article - me being a new artist i understand lol but just saying "adjust the skin tone" might acctually put people down. maybe comment
on something you like and something to improve on? i dunno just an idea lol :D
SoContagious
You're totally right =) I'm trying to comment as much as possible =)
Christabel
Even a couple of comments on a vexel makes such a difference compared to... none! I always try to give most vexels I view a comment, but like b0o sometimes I'm just way too lazy... but I shall try harder!
Fab
Yeah, i totaly agree with this article. I can see that the people are much more worried about comenting the good and awarded vexelers than comenting or even looking to the vexels of the avarege and begining ones, wich in my opinion is much more constructive than just keep congratulating the awesome vexels of the well knowne awsome vexelers of the site.
b0o
"So visit the "No Comments" page and give a newbie a helping hand" i do that quite alot but most of the time i am lazy and i just fave something without commenting. the really good vexels get hundreds of comments yet someone who is new and just learning may get 1 comment, this then discourages them :(
nicely written article, hopefully a few will actually comment.
Sarah
I totally agree. I try to comment when I can, but sometimes i'm literally only online for a few seconds. :) I'm going to try harder! :o
itsnikki!
Yes, thank you for writing this. Because some people may feel discouraged when they work hard on something and there's *no* comments on it.
